Projektswya Boxing Academy
Established 2016 – Powered By Community, Fuelled By Purpose
The projektswya boxing academy was created by Whitefield Youth Association in 2016 as a dynamic way to engage with hard-to-reach young people in the community. Entirely self-funded at its inception, the programme was born out of a desire to provide meaningful opportunities for young people, particularly at a time when traditional youth services were in decline.
As access to conventional funding streams became increasingly limited, the charity recognised the pressing need to adopt a more sustainable model. In response, Whitefield Youth Association made a strategic decision to invest in innovative, income-generating initiatives that would not only support the continued delivery of high-impact youth programmes, but also secure the organisation’s long-term financial stability – this is where the projektswya boxing academy came in.
The vision behind the academy was both practical and purposeful aimed at providing a structured, supportive environment that fosters physical wellbeing, mental resilience, and personal development. Entirely self-funded at its inception through the charity’s own reserves, the project reflected a deep commitment to investing in the future of local young people. Since its inception, the academy has continued to grow in strength and impact, evolving into a powerful symbol of hope, transformation, and opportunity at the heart of the community.

WHY BOXING?
At Whitefield Youth Association, boxing is more than just a sport – it is a powerful tool for change and at the very heart of our work.
Through the projektswya boxing academy, we harness the unique discipline, energy, and structure of boxing to create a safe, engaging, and inspiring environment where young people can thrive.
With years of experience delivering youth-led, community-based programmes, we have seen first-hand how boxing values discipline, respect, and perseverance that resonates with young people and motivates them to keep showing up, even when life feels overwhelming. The academy provides a positive, enjoyable experience that builds confidence, resilience, and self-belief. It draws young people in, keeps them engaged, and opens the door to wider personal development opportunities.
For us, boxing is not just an activity, it is a way of life. We believe in its power to connect, to transform, and to help young people realise their potential so they can lead happier, healthier, and more purposeful lives.
CREDIBILTY THAT CONNECTS
At projektswya boxing academy, boxing offers more than physical training – it provides a powerful sense of authenticity and street credibility that speaks directly to young people, particularly those who may feel disengaged from traditional services. The familiar, no-nonsense environment of the gym helps to dismantle the stigma often attached to seeking support.
Rather than entering a formal setting or speaking with a professional, young people are naturally drawn to the academy. Here, they find connection, encouragement, and emotional support simply by showing up and getting involved. It is a space that feels real, empowering, and free from judgement where growth happens through participation, not pressure.
A BOXING FAMILY THAT NEVER GIVES UP
Walking into a boxing gym for the first time can feel overwhelming but at projektswya boxing academy, young people are welcomed into a space that feels safe, supportive, and familiar. It is more than a place to train; it is a space where they know they matter.
We show up consistently, especially when others cannot. Like any strong and caring family, our support is unwavering and without condition. Through every setback and every success, we are always in their corner.
BUILT ON TRUST, NOT TITLES
We know that trust is not given – it is earned. That is why we place such value on building authentic, respectful connections from the ground up. The people involved with Whitefield Youth Association are intentionally relatable creating an environment where young people feel at ease. Through shared experience and the culture of boxing, we break down barriers, build rapport, and create the space for real conversations. It is in those moments when the gloves are off and the guard is down that trust takes root and meaningful progress begins.
STRENGTHENING BODY AND MIND
Boxing is more than a way to stay active, it is a powerful tool for improving both physical and mental health. At the projektswya boxing academy, our high-energy sessions help young people increase their fitness levels, improve coordination, and build healthier habits, all while tackling issues such as inactivity and obesity.
But the benefits go deeper. Regular physical activity releases endorphins – the body’s natural mood boosters – helping to reduce stress, lift low moods, and lower the risk of depression. For those struggling with anger or frustration, boxing offers a positive outlet – a safe, structured way to release tension, build self-control, and channel energy in a healthy direction.2
SELF BELIEF
At Whitefield Youth Association, we understand that helping young people believe in themselves is the foundation for lasting change. Through the projektswya boxing academy, we create the space for young people to develop their skills, grow their confidence, and recognise their own potential.
Boxing gives them something to focus on a challenge that builds resilience and self-esteem with every session. We have seen young people walk through our doors with their heads down and shoulders hunched, only to leave standing taller, both physically and emotionally. It’s not just about what they achieve in the ring – it is about who they become outside of it.
SKILLS THAT LAST A LIFETIME
Every punch thrown and every round completed is building more than fitness, it is shaping character. Our sessions are designed to instil essential life skills such as discipline, perseverance, respect, and self-worth.
These qualities do not stay in the ring. They transfer into the classroom, the workplace, and everyday life equipping young people with the mind-set and habits they need to achieve long-term success and independence beyond the gym walls.
